Dear Yuletide Writer
(Wow, assignments came out fast - apologies for not having this up in advance!)
Thank you so much! The thought of a story in any of these fandoms is already making me happy.
I love all of these fandoms unreservedly, so if you have a yen to explore the universe, or bring in additional characters I didn't list, it's all good.
If you want more information about my requests, read on - but please don't worry if your ideas go in a different direction. Optional details are optional! I would much rather read the story you wanted to write than the story you felt you were obligated to write because of something I said. As long as it's for one of these fandoms, and uses the characters, you totally win at Yuletide. \o/
My fic tastes
I generally prefer the warm / happy / fluffy / vanilla end of the spectrum, especially for Yuletide.
I'm mainly a m/m slash fan, with a strong leaning toward buddy pairs; where I’m not in it for the slash, I’m usually in it for the gen.
Slash for me covers the full spectrum from UST and preslash through totally committed/involved, and can be explicit or not depending on what suits the story. It's all about the characters and their relationship, whatever point it may be at.
But if you matched on one of my slash-potential requests and don't do slash, that's totally fine! "Relationship" also covers friendship, and gen about these characters will also make me really happy.
Some story elements and styles I like, in no particular order:
I like stories that weave into canon (missing scenes, episode tags...), stories that expand on canon (backstory, futurefic...), stories that deepen existing canon (case/adventure fic, slice of life, romances...).

Boston Legal (Denny Crane, Alan Shore)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! I love the way Alan and Denny love each other. They can and do disagree and about a lot of things, but they really do complete each other, and they both know it. I would love to see almost anything with them, set any time. (Please nothing that focuses on Denny's advancing illness per se.) A slice of life, Coast Guard adventures, curtainfic, kittenfic, road trip, new client, gone fishin', -- anything will make me happy. I miss these two a lot. <3
Why I requested it: Every now and then I think "aw, yeah, I remember Boston Legal" and then I watch a bit and it's more like "AW, YEAH, I REMEMBER BOSTON LEGAL" with hearts in my eyes. I just adore Alan and Denny. They're not really likable in many ways, but I love them to bits, because they love each other so much. They're so different in some of their core beliefs, but they don't try to change each other; they may make fun of each other a bit, but it's affectionately, with genuine acceptance, and a real enjoyment, even delight, in each other's company. They're just so good together.
I just want to see more of that, anything from a case they're working together to a vacation trip to a sleepover to dinner to an adventure on the high seas as Coast Guard.
Peacemakers (Larimer Finch, Jared Stone)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! Finch and Stone are rock-solid favorites of mine, and I miss them a lot. Anything you want to write, from a case story to them sitting on the porch one day watching the townsfolk go by, from courtroom session to a slice of life, from wacky hijinks to intimate vulnerability -- it's all good. I just love the connection between these two, and as long as that's there, I'll be happy.
Why I requested it: I don't think there's anything about this show I don't love. The way Finch and Stone complement each other perfectly, each smart and experienced in his own way (and each constantly learning from the other), making them an incredibly competent team. The professionalism and respect that so quickly deepened into trust and affection. Finch's boundless curiosity; Stone's bone-deep protective streak. The sense of wonder and optimism in the setting, with new inventions and discoveries every day, making the world seem limitless in potential, against the traditions, solidity, and conservatism of the old guard that keeps everything grounded. Their easy, comfortable friendships with women, in Katie and Miss Luci. The hints we get of their histories. Just... everything.
The entire show was full of well-drawn, interesting characters -- both recurring and one-shot -- and any of them you want to bring in would be more than welcome, but the core of Peacemakers for me was the connection and balance between Stone and Finch. Show me their connection, slash or gen, in any situation, and I'll be happy.
The Slipper and the Rose (Prince Edward, John)
Request details: Slash or gen, any rating, please! Edward and John are a charming mystery in the middle of a charming movie. They're clearly very close and comfortable with each other (despite the usual constraints of position and positioning), but at the same time don't actually seem to know that much about each other, like they've only recently met. I would love to see more about them together that goes into that closeness and newness - anything from quiet mutual snark at a function to a walk in the garden to teaming up in an incognito brawl at a tavern to their first meeting to anything at all. Just more of these two, please. <3
I saw this in the tagset and just had to include it -- this is one of those movies I always stop to watch if I come across it on tv, and it never fails to charm on every front. I love everyone in it, but I've always wanted to see more of Prince Edward and John together in particular. I love how comfortable and casual they are with each other, how Edward finds out about life on the servants' side of things and John is so comfortable making fun of Edward's royal ancestors as they sing and dance their way around the royal crypt. (... add that to the pile of "phrases I never thought I'd type"...) They're aware of the difference in their positions but don't seem at all constrained by it; John seems to fill the spot of a noble companion to the prince without being noble. There's a whole lot of trust and warmth there that fascinates me, and I'd love to see something that touches on that, whether how it started, or a quiet day at home at the castle, or a hunting trip, or anything that strikes your fancy. If you go for post-movie, no infidelity, please - either warm gen or an aware and approving Cinderella if slash. <3
Tango & Cash (Gabriel Cash, Raymond Tango)
Request details: Slash or gen, any rating, please! I love these two, how they’re both so incredibly competent and confident, and how they’re that much better together no matter how much they would rather not admit it. I would love to see more of them together, however that happens - a case, a night on the town, competing at the firing range, a "grill the best burger" challenge - anything. Snark and banter and growing respect & trust are a fantastic combination.
Why I requested it: This is also one of those movies I stop and watch any time I stumble across it on tv. Opposites having to work together and learning to respect, trust, and like each other is one of my buttons, and these two have that in spades, combined with vast amounts of competence.
I'd love any kind of story about them as long as that connection is there, whether it's sparky and snarky around movie-time or mellowed out a bit down the road in futurefic.
Valdemar Series - Mercedes Lackey (Kethry, Tarma shena Tale'sedrin)
Request details: Gen, any rating, please! Tarma and Kethry are my all-time favorite Lackey characters: smart, practical/pragmatic, competent and determined to keep training/learning to maintain and improve on that competence, utterly loyal to each other, wry, self-aware – I just love them. And I love their relationship, built on bedrock but one they know they need to pay attention to (like the way Tarma has to make sure she doesn't wrap fully capable Kethry in cotton wool, just because she's promised to be the mother of Tarma's renewed tribe). I'd love anything about them: the early days of their lives as she'enedran and each of them adapting to suddenly knowing they'll never be alone again; off on a job (either a regular for-hire job, or something Need drives them to); learning to be part of a bigger mercenary force; their lives as teachers and running a school; time among the Clans; hanging out at an inn or resupplying at a marketplace; dealing with a storm out in the open – whatever may strike your fancy, I'm all for it.
Why I requested it: Because Tarma and Kethry are awesome. <3 A sword & sorceress pair was unusual back when these were being written; this particular pair is still unusual in that Tarma, the "barbarian" warrior, is also chaste, asexual, and a priestess. More unusual still, she's asexual with a strong maternal instinct; she adores kids. Kethry's sorcery, meanwhile, isn't tied to her sexuality in any way, so she can and does sleep with whoever she wants. The two of them met by chance and formed a partnership strong enough that they deliberately chose blood-sisterhood for themselves, an unshakeable life bond. They go adventuring around the world together, gaining skills and reputation, so that they can rebuild Tarma's destroyed clan together.
There's nothing about these two I don't love. I'd be happy with any kind of a story, from their early days when they're still getting to know each other and learning each other's strength, weaknesses, sore points, senses of humor; a job that's not Need-driven where they're just being the mercenaries they are, working for a living; a job that is Need-driven, where they have to deal with a situation they weren't ready for; their early days with the Sunhawks when they're learning to be part of a group of mercs rather than working on their own; the early days of the refounding of Clan Talesedrin as they raised kids and brought other Shin'a'in in; working at their school to teach the next generation(s); or any smaller moments, like a shopping trip through any marketplace, playing a 'what's their story' game in an inn as they size up all the other customers, soaking in hot baths/pools after a rough week/month/year...
I adore all these fandoms, and will be happy with absolutely anything you write, as long as you enjoy writing it.
