Thanks for posting all of this info in one handy place. I had done a lot of clearing out a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon the lifehacker post.
One extension that lifehacker suggested for both Firefox and Chrome was Do Not Track and Do Not Track Plus. I have it installed on both Firefox and Chrome, and it keeps a running tally of what it's blocking and from whom. I was amazed at how many trackers it has blocked! In the thousands! I wonder if this is comparable to Ghostery?
The mere thought of disconnecting from Gmail makes me shudder, so I suppose I'll be checking my mail and chatting with folks in a separate, dedicated browser. I guess that means I will finally have to choose a default browser. heh.
