I have an iphone and both my gmail accounts (real name & fannish/friends-only) are linked up to the mail app on the phone. When I went to purge my web history for my real name google account it included the search history from my phone.

Ahhhh, thank you, that's what I didn't have -- confirmation that they could really track your searches just from being logged in on the mail app. I suspected it was true, but hoped it wasn't.

I have no idea if they'll be merging Gmail account info, but I really hope not; maybe they'll be assuming that if people are sharing a computer, they're more likely to have two of a given kind of account, rather than 1 of each of several different products. I know that my two Gmail accts, each linked to a G+ account on the same name, have never had anything merged between them (even after probably stupidly using the "switch log-in" capability that let me toggle between accounts).

The work thing is a nightmare; Google has pushed so hard to become a product that businesses rely on, and dear god, this has the potential to just hose confidentiality, both internal and for customers. (Someone earlier in the comments was realizing that Google could wind up merging her personal searches with the confidential searches she does for customer information for work, which. GAH.)
