I threw out all my remaining tapes a couple years ago, a gigantic pile, and even though I'd long since gotten everything that was on them on DVD, it felt wrong.
I got rid of hundreds (and hundreds) of tapes a few years ago -- tapes on my shelves, tapes in boxes, tapes under my bed -- and it was so hard, even though I had them all on DVD at that point. Then I did another clearout about a year ago, absolutely determined to get ALL the tapes out of my living room -- and wound up sticking probably a hundred into plastic bins and storing them in a friend's basement, because the shows aren't out on DVD and probably never will be, and what if I need them someday!
But at least my living room is down to all DVDs except for a shelf or two of old vid tapes. (Which I can't get rid of even though I've transferred most to home-burned DVD, because those DVDs don't last, and what if I need the tapes! *g*)
