Because fuck that: I knew how to program my VCR and everyone else's.

Yes, exactly!

It's carried on down for me, even; I'm the family go-to person for all tech woes, from tvs (and components) to computers to kindles and tablets, despite the fact that one of my brothers is actually an IT person.

When my parents got a new tv and and another brother went out to help them set it up, they started politely saying from the moment he showed up "Do you want us to call your sister?" Then as he struggled and fought to get the Tivo hooked up properly, it turned to "Maybe we should call your sister", and "... We can call your sister. If you want. We have the phone right here." until an hour in, he caved and said "... Call [Arduinna]." Heh.

And now I've been farmed out not only to my aunts and uncles for all kinds of tech support, but to my dad's elderly group of breakfast buddies, who call me up for Kindle support after he talked up the Kindle I gave him so much they started buying them...
