Yeah, I think the whole Jessica thing is more a measure of John's fucked-upness than anything else; I can't see anything about it as *real*, other than John having hoarded all his human emotion in his memories of Jessica when Kara started messing with him so badly. I mean -- they dated for six months. Ten years before she died. The fact that he hadn't been able to let go of her in all that time -- after he was the one who left her, of his own volition! -- is really not so good.
But I also feel like this season, we're seeing him starting to move past it, finally; he's letting himself feel things for other people now. (Has he mentioned the man who found him and gave him a job? Harold is his name. He saved John. <3)
I admit I'd rather not see either of them in a serious romantic relationship with anyone but each other, but at least Grace makes way more emotional sense; Harold was truly committed to her, for years, not just during the happy hazy endorphin stage of infatuation. And he didn't leave her because his higher calling was more important; he left her because his presence was a genuine threat to her.
Although that said, I don't think it's a great idea for him to be stalking her - man, if she falls for someone else, ack. Clean break, Harold, clean break! He should stick to stalking Reese, who stalks him back. ♥
