Summary: After the defeat of the Progenitor, Tony is surprised to find that Steve has changed his mind and would now like to take him up on his offer to relax in the hot springs. Steve, more depressed than Tony has ever seen him, would like to compare notes on their respective judgments and find out how Tony's been doing in his newly-sober life. He'd also like to reveal a few long-held secrets about his feelings for Tony -- and there's more than one surprise here.

Remember me? I used to write fic! This is mostly unedited, but also it's been sitting here for about three years and I mostly just wanted it off my hard drive. Thanks to Blossom for cheerleading this while I was writing it.

This is about 90,000 words of meta disguised as fic, about Judgment Day and about how much I hate Cantwell's Iron Man run. Steve and Tony spend this entire story conversing in the Avengers Mountain hot springs. Then they fuck. That is the actual plot. There is also a short epilogue from Steve's POV, coming soon. They go to a different room for that one.

(When I say "short," I mean "35,000 words.")

Style File: Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu and Ashley Park Promote EMILY IN PARIS in Venice

Posted by Lorenzo Marquez

Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu and Ashley Park can’t stop, won’t stop serving looks on the seemingly endless publicity tour for Emily in Paris, season five. This show must be one hell of a hit for Netflix, because this is one pricey-as-hell promo tour. First, a photo op in Venice:

AT THE TRAIN STEP PHOTO OP
Lily Collins in Lanvin

How does a photo opp differ from a photo call, you may be asking? It would appear that the former requires more cutesy posing and more interactive backdrops. Anyway, this is very chic and restrained. The open back is a sexy surprise.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu

The dress is fun, but the boots are too much with it.

Ashley Park in Georges Hobeika

It’s what all the well-dressed train-travelers are wearing. Honestly, this is kind of gorgeous, but it looks very silly in this setting. Granted it would look out of place in any setting that wasn’t a bedroom, but this feels more like red carpet fashion than train station fashion.

AT THE PHOTOCALL
Lily Collins in Schiaparelli Couture

But that’s probably missing the point, since every single outfit these ladies are wearing on this tour is red carpet-ready. No one’s doing dressy-casual for this one. This is an interesting design, but it feels like Balenciaga trying to do Iris van Herpen. The effect is simply too sloppy and awkward to be fabulous.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu in Ferragamo

This is a lot of fun and she clearly loves it. The color looks amazing on her. Our only quibble is with the length. This would work better at gown length.

Ashley Park in Antonio Grimaldi

Drop-dead stunning. This one might have photographed poorly in a red carpet situation, but it’s gorgeous in the daylight, even if it screams evening.

AT THE COCKTAIL RECEPTION

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (in Elie Saab), Lily Collins (in Alessandra Rich) and Ashley Park (in LaPointe)

How does a cocktail reception differ from a photo opp or photo call? Who knows? It’s not like the outfits are any less eye-popping.

We suppose we should give them all credit for showing up in a distinctly different sheer. We’re surprised to admit we like Philippine’s skirt, since we normally hate tiered skirts. That top is awful, however. Lily’s look is probably one of the most basic she’s worn on this entire tour. It’s fine, but it’s not very interesting. As much as we dislike sheer dresses, we’ll take them over a blazer with a beaded curtain trying to pass itself off as a skirt. Not even you can make this one work, Ashley.

AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE

Darren Star, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lily Collins (in Patou), Ashley Park, Eugenio Franceschini

Not a premiere! Not a photo call or photo op! No, it’s merely a press conference where everyone dresses like it’s one of those things. Not that we’re complaining, of course. We love ourselves a meaty publicity tour with a lot of high end looks involved. Philippine’s dress is gorgeous. Lily’s is cute, but the top and bottom halves are kind of fighting with each other. Ashley, just wear a skirt. Like, a real skirt that someone sewed instead of these wispy scraps of lace pretending to be skirts. You’re wearing a fancy diaper, girl.

ABOUT THE NEW SEASON:
Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.

If you're devil, how come you're not wearing Prada?

+ Managed to finish up nearly all my Christmas shopping today, huzzah. My brother is getting a bunch of cheeses and some spreads and crackers, I just need his gf to send me a picture of his comics shelf so I can order him a book to round it out.

I do need to do wrapping though. To think I used to love doing that back in the day.

+ Also found a Christmas calendar at 40% off, so now I'll have something to open every day after all. It's from the Finnish brand Lumene and if half of it is as good as the eye cream I've already tried, I got a real bargain.

+ Very sad to hear about the loss of Rob Reiner, and it just keeps getting sadder as I read about all the wonderful things he did and stood for.

+ Please tell me more of you are watching Pluribus? The last episode was the best one yet, and I find myself suddenly willing to go to war for one of the characters. But that whole episode, oh man. Ten out of ten. I even double dipped and downloaded a couple of episodes so I can make some damn icons. *mutters about stupid streaming apps*

+ Also I am now watching watch alongs for IWTV on yt. I need more people to be blathering on about these vampires. Still taking a predictable chunk out of my fic reading time, and now I'm down to one buffer rec for Rec-Cember. Somebody tell me to shape up.

The Good Place
Free Netflix Subscription by [archiveofourown.org profile] Wildgoosery (10,103 words). Ah yes, the show that gave us an endless fun array of AUs to frolick in. And this is a delightful entry.
There’s a knock at the door. The weather here is perfect and mild — because of course it is — so they had left it standing open. This means that nothing obscures Eleanor’s view as an Amazonian gazelle of a woman steps theatrically into the doorway, one elegant arm sweeping up to rest upon the frame.

It occurs to Eleanor that this woman must have knocked on the outside of the house, then waited the exact right amount of time to make this entrance once Eleanor and Michael would be looking, but before they’d thought to shout “Hello?” or glance at each other or otherwise spoil the moment. Honestly, it’s pretty impressive, points for drama and also for wearing heels despite being damn near six feet tall.

“Ah, excellent timing!” Michael says, pleased. “Eleanor, this is your soulmate, Tahani.”

Tahani extends her hand, angled down and slightly curved. “Charmed,” she says, with the fanciest fucking accent Eleanor has ever heard in person.

“Soulmate! Wow!” Eleanor says. The position of Tahani’s offered hand makes her feel like she’s expected to take it in her own, bow over it, and kiss one elegant knuckle at a time, but she’s not really butch enough to pull off that kind of a Prince Charming maneuver, not even in flannel.

Rec-cember Day 15: Firefly

A quick one, because tonight I'm shattered. In the unlikely event someone isn't familiar with the show or the movie, Fanlore has a good rundown.

My main ship back then was Mal/River (now that I'm older I'm slightly squicked by the age difference though River is so much more powerful that Mal that this redresses the balance a little), so my recs reflect this. Also, Firefly seems to be the little black dress of crossovers, as it goes well with any fandom. I remember reading loads of very fun crossovers, unfortunately I had only a handful saved in my bookmarks.

No Power In the 'Verse by [archiveofourown.org profile] vialethe. 24K words. Mal/River. Having no choice but to feel, River cherishes all the more deeply the ability to act. If only she knew what action to take." A believable and gorgeously written take on this unlikely pairing. Very good River voice, which must be a bitch to get right.

I Fall by [archiveofourown.org profile] Kass. Mal/River. River knows what she wants. Probably the first story that made me fall for this pairing. It's adorable how persistent River has to be and how flustered Mal is.

Whiskey and Wry by [archiveofourown.org profile] musesfool Mal/River. There's a difference between what a man wants and what he knows is right. Exquisite yearning, lovely character voices.

Good Luck Charms by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nary. Pre-series Wash/Zoe. Lovely backstory for one of the best married couples in TV.

And Then It Went all F*ing Stargate by indyhat. Firefly/Generation Kill. Gen. Spot-on character voices. Hilarious.

The Pitt

never waste a Friday night by [archiveofourown.org profile] morphosynctactic. Trinity/Whitaker. Don't hit the back button! I know they have siblings vibes. Yet this works. It's tremendously in character. And hot. And sweet. And hilarious. You would think that sleeping with Trinity Santos (who isn't actually that into him) would rip Dennis' self-esteem to shreds. But it turns out that when she texts him "i thought your dick was going to be kind of weird but it’s pretty solid” and "your fingerblasting is adequate" he knows that's the truth and nothing but the truth.

Zooey Deschanel Promotes MERV on WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE WITH ANDY COHEN

Posted by Lorenzo Marquez

Back in the aughts, when we first started celebrity style blogging, we routinely used to wonder when and if Zooey Deschanel would ever retire her twee preferences and her love of tights. We probably wouldn’t have predicted that she’d still be working the same look over fifteen years later and we almost certainly would have suggested that doing so represented a mistake on her part. After all, good style isn’t about locking yourself in to one look permanently, it’s about evolving that look over time. Well, here she is, fresh from 2008:

Honestly? We’re not mad at it. It’s a legitimately cute dress, even if it feels, like so many of her style choices, a little juvenile. The sheer tights are her one concession to modern style (she was all about the opaque ones back in the day), but it’s clear you’ll pry her Mary Jane clodhoppers off her cold, dead feet.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
When their beloved dog Merv loses his spark after their split, Anna (Zooey Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox) are forced into the world’s most awkward co-parenting arrangement. Hoping to shake Merv out of his funk, Russ takes him to Florida for a much-needed getaway—only for Anna to show up unexpectedly. As Merv slowly gets his groove back, turns out fixing their dog’s broken heart may lead to a few sparks of their own.
Directed By Jessica Swale
Cast: Zooey Deschanel, Charlie Cox, Chris Redd, Patricia Heaton

Watched the weather report today.

Today's temperatures: Started below 20, "feels like" in the single digits. But not to worry, within a week we should be in the 50s!

And they just said that, with no commentary, like it's not absolutely bizarre to go from 19F - 56F within a single week in December.

And it's not just the high temperatures that are bizarre, the low ones are too. I can't speak to the decades before 1990, I guess, but NYC weather used to be temperate - we got more snow, but that's because the winter temperatures were in the snow range - close to the freezing point, not so warm it melted, not so cold that it just didn't happen.

Random fashion pondering

I used to have this skirt by Kambriel. I have since sold it on to [personal profile] sistawendy , and it looks fabulous on her. But I miss the idea of the skirt.

I'm pondering buying yardage of both those fabrics to make myself an ankle-length version. I'd be making it myself, because if I asked the Madwoman in the Attic to make something with both those patterns together, her head would explode.

Okay, nobody has entered the beaver lodges to check for sewing machines - yet

[F]irst wild beaver spotted in Norfolk in 500 years and Wild beavers may have spread further than we realise:

It is not clear whether the Pensthorpe beaver, whose sex and age is unknown, was illegally released into the reserve by activists using a practice known as beaver bombing. It is possible it wandered of its own accord into the Wensum – an aquifer-fed chalk river whose name is derived from the Old English adjective for “wandering”.
“It could be a naturally dispersing wild beaver,” said Emily Bowen, a spokesperson for the Beaver Trust, a charity that aims to restore beavers to regenerate landscapes. She said that there were established wild populations in eight areas in England at the moment.
Wild beavers have also been spotted in Kent, Hampshire, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hereford, she said. Norfolk has some captive beavers but none have been reported missing.

Maybe it's a sinister beaver underground conspiracy....

And if we are talking aquatic mammals, see also otters: otters’ revival in Britain. Still rare only 20 years ago, the charismatic animals are in almost every UK river and a conservation success story.

White storks to be introduced to, believe it or not, Dagenham.

A rather different story: voyaging owls: Two burrowing owls stowed away on a cruise ship out of Miami, and are now living the high life at a Spanish resort before returning to the US next month. We think they may have been in flight from being a threatened species in Florida....

Zoe Saldaña in Chanel at the AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH Miami Special Screening: IN or OUT?

Posted by Lorenzo Marquez

We kind of like what Zoe Saldana wore to the Miami screening of Avatar: Fire and Ash, although we’re not sure if we actually like it on the merits or if we just appreciate that she’s been taking more risks with her style lately. After years of defaulting to the most generically minimal frocks she could get her hands on, she’s suddenly picking things with real shape and personality to them:

It’s funny. We’ve spent years proclaiming our dislike of black-backed florals but we can’t help thinking we’d like this more if it was a black dress. Something about the black, yellow and red embellishments look harsh to our eyes. It also feels like an odd dress for this time of year, although it’s certainly seasonally appropriate for Miami. The more we look at it, the more we realize that it’s everything below the knees that bug us. Those red flowers look like cheerleader pom poms. Still, it’s bold, bright and interesting, which is half the battle for any red carpet choice. Since these selections are dwindling as the holidays loom, this may be the last dress we get to put up to a vote this year, so let’s hear it:

Zoe Saldana’s Floral Explosion:

IN or OUT?
