Oooh, hey, you got a good one! There are really only two that vaguely squick me. \o/

Yeah, it may not have cuddling for warmth (the holy grail! *g*), but it has brainwashing! ♥ Plus a couple of things I've written in the past, so I know I can manage it.

What are your vague squicks in this context? It would be easy for me to avoid them, at this early planning stage.

P.S. ICON LOOOOOOVE.

Brainwashing and amnesia! And nightmares! And hiding an illness/injury! Bullet wounds! Medication! (Heh -- PoI already did those last two. ♥)

I'm vaguely twitchy about self-harm (because it tends to manifest in fanfic as BSOs cutting themselves like teenage girls) and sexual extortion (again, in the context of fanfic, I associate with Aliens/Sadistic Villains Made Us Do It). But I can't see you writing either of those examples, anyway!

Feel free to help yourself to all three, if you'd like.

They diiiiiid. ...and hmm, actually, they did those last three, if we count John in the finale, having been hurt but keeping it to himself for the time being, his arm quietly down by his side... Oh, POI, you are so good to me.

And understood about those squicks! I don't think I'd write them in those particular ways--at least, I hope not!--but it's good to be alert. I think my approach would be more along the lines of... Like, for sexual extortion, how Kelly (and more rarely, Scotty) is sometimes sent on missions to seduce-and-destroy, which may not always end up very well for them. Or, really, any one of my BSOs who might need to go undercover to do that particular deed against an antagonist. If I understand the phrase correctly, I think that sort of thing would count?

Self-harm, hmm. I again suspect I wouldn't have the self-harm be an expression of personal inner depression/anxiety, a la cutting. I feel like I'd be more likely to have the self-harm come from a different place, as when Reese is in the refrigerated truck and bruises/lacerates his wrists so badly from struggling against the handcuffs. A type of self-harm performed in a back-against-the-wall situation, especially to save someone else. (Pause for a moment to run the scene through my head. Ahhh.)

Feel free to help yourself to all three, if you'd like.

Oh oh oh you have a MEANINGFUL GLASSES ADJUSTMENT. Sigh! ♥____♥

Truly! ♥ ♥ ♥

I guess I tend to interpret prompts as against our BSOs, not necessarily something they do, as part of their jobs, to others? But I don't know enough about the rules to make that call.

YES! See, I've been so conditioned against it that I never even thought of something like that. (Mmm... yes, that scene.)

Oh oh oh you have a MEANINGFUL GLASSES ADJUSTMENT.

And crinkly-eyed Reese smile! ♥

But I don't know enough about the rules to make that call.

Me neither, at this point. *g* I'll run it past people who're more familiar with the whole bingo experience. But my thinking at present is that it could count, if the sexual-extortion our BSOs have to perform is the ultimate cause of the H in the H/C. (I mean, the episode "Laya" kind of does that to Scotty already, having his loathing of the whole process spark off a ton of distress, and a fight with Kelly...)

The rules also talk about how the prompt can be related to the H or the C, which seems to indicate some basic flexibility of interpretation (esp. rules 15 and 16 here), as long as the prompt is a central feature of the story and not just a passing detail ("After the mission where they did a lot of sexual extortion, it turns out Kelly and Scotty got lost in the Arctic and had to cuddle for warmth!").

But these are just my guesses, and I'll keep noodging those in the know for their thoughts.

And crinkly-eyed Reese smile!

*falls over* I will never get tired of that scene. Aiiiieeee.

I am excited!

And yours, too... That central row right across just seems so so nice, and moreso every time I look at it. Hell, I could imagine that row serving as the five-prompts-one-story row thing in the Extras, too, depending on where your actual Bingo pattern ends up being.

Yours is pretty awesome, too! Again, really only two squicky things (and flogging is one of yours, too).

Heee...yeah, the cards are always greener in the other person's html code.

And never underestimate the usefulness of canonical flogging! Which reminds me...

Brainwashing would be there, too, and even is to a minor extent, but there's always Kelly

There IS always Kelly. When in search of a canonical hurt, you should have him in your pocket just in case! I mean, he's also a possibility for flogging, if you posited a missing scene in Room With a Rack (aka THEY TORTURE KELLY) or a pre-episode explanation for his injuries in Home to Judgment (aka SOMEONE ALREADY TORTURED KELLY). :D He's like a Swiss Army Knife of canon-H for your H/C needs.

De-aging is one of those fantastical ones that I figured I'd have to get very metaphorical about. (I mean, weirdo universes like Haven excluded.)

dorinda: Nathan Wuornos (from Haven) presses a plastic fork hard against his palm. (Haven_nathan)

[personal profile] dorinda 2012-06-11 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmmmm, I like the way you think.

*hugs Kelly pre-emptively*

*...and Reese too*

But not impossible, I think...

Not impossible! And I mean, if you're using it for a realistic-universe fandom and don't want to go magical-realism or cracky, I was imagining possible interpretations like... Oh, let's take Kelly, just since he's already here and suffering so helpfully. *g* Maybe Kelly has to infiltrate/seduce/socialize his way into a particular expat group. But by this time in his career, the folks in the group are all a lot younger than he is. So he has to 1) pitch himself as a slightly younger guy, and 2) keep up with the energy levels and activities (and maturity levels) preferred by this younger set, to better be included by them instead of being seen as the Dad-Mascot. More of a personal/forcible/metaphorical "de-aging", that would surely bring on a lot of psychological distress for him (re: aging out of the job, falling down on the job, the Department grinding him into the dirt as their expendable tool...), not even to mention the physical toll.

That was just off the top of my head, though, as one angle on an "I am trapped as [in the role of] a younger person and I can't get out" sort of thing. I'm sure there are better ways to go at it, without having to do the "poof, someone is crackily turned into a little kid and their partner has to look after them oh jeez no thank you nooooo". *cough*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds that not to their taste.

Yeah, if it's canonical flogging, I can usually deal (as long as it's not Passion of the Christ extreme, or the writer doesn't decide to turn it into sexxytiems -- and I know you wouldn't do either!), but only if there's a big, honkin' boatload of comfort afterward (if not, it's just sadism, which is really, really not my thing).

My other squicky thing was de-aging, which you were also side-eyeing a bit. Again, it's one thing if there's something canonical (like the younger version of Jack in SG-1), or if there were supernatural elements in canon that might account for it. Otherwise? DNW.

I'd be okay with Stockholm syndrome connected to someone like Loki, because we've seen him whammy people.

You're welcome to my icons, too. I don't make very good ones, but they serve their purpose. *g*

all I can think is how much it would hurt.

Same here. Pain will never be erotic to me (just like incest won't, either).

Or even during, since it sounds like Clint was practically goa'ulded.

Totally! That could be really interesting to explore, as a writer. (Wait... who am I kidding? There must be lots of Clint ponders... stories out there already! *g*)
