Boston reactions
I keep writing up posts about last week in Boston, then deleting them for an excess of rantiness. But I also don't seem to be able to move past writing up that kind of post.
So I will just say, in short:
I am so impressed with how everything got handled in Boston this last week, from the reaction at the Marathon to the systematic search on Friday. And I'm so proud of the citizenry as well, for doing everything possible to help, both the victims, the stranded runners/visitors, and the police. I've been choked up since last Monday at the outpouring of support from pretty much everywhere, too; weirdly (since I'm not really a sports fan), especially from sports teams from all over, and especially especially New York. *hugs New York*
And at the same time, I am so angry at people who weren't here using this as an excuse to push "assault weapons are awesome and what we really need is a heavily armed citizenry ready to shoot anything that moves" agendas, or effectively telling the people of Boston that they should be ashamed of coming together as a community to help the police find Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after he rampaged through our streets throwing bombs out his car windows and shooting up residential neighborhoods. (I have literally seen someone calling everyone who stayed indoors "docile sheep". Fuck you, asshole.)
*deep breath*
Okay, that took five days to get down to a plus-and-minus set of paragraphs. Now maybe I can move on to fannish things. Which I will take to another post, so as not to mix it up with the RL stuff...

Let me boggle a moment. ... still boggling.

Nope. Still boggling.
I'm sorry you had to be exposed to that venom. I'm sorry there are people who think such a thing is appropriate to say. And this was said in the face of the sensible reactions of the people of Boston as they helped each other, helped the police, came together. I love Boston, and after seeing the city manage with such grace under pressure, it has even more of my esteem.

I know better than to read the comments most places, but I was seeing this in a couple of places that are usually reasonable. It really was boggling.

I...what? Put me down with the above commenter - still boggling! I mean...WTF?
This really only goes to prove some people don't have an ounce of common sense, let alone decency.
I've been pleasantly surprised at how amazing the everyday folks of Boston, and their police and first responders, have handled this. I'm also very glad to hear you (and the other Bostoners I know) are safe.

Me too! I was gobsmacked at how quickly and efficiently things got handled right down the line - basically not a single fumble, which is astonishing.
*deletes more paragraphs of ranting about concern trolls*
They had very poor timing, let's just say. *wry grin* I don't want to see a police state any more than anyone else - but I also don't want people roaming the streets with bombs and assault weapons, sheesh.

Someone attacked your home. You handled it together. Go Boston.
