Check In: Day 22
Hello, friends! I hope your writing day was more productive than mine!
If there's one thing I've learned from a life with chronic illnesses, it's that daily energy is not constant, no matter what we do. Some days you can do a lot, and some days just making it to the next day is a lot. Writing is like that, too.
And sometimes, even when you have the energy for writing and no other tasks that need to get done instead, you still just don't want to write. And that's OK, too. Our brains need rest the same as our bodies. Besides, when you come back to your writing, you'll be that much fresher and eager to do it.

[#274 | Near-Death Experience] Voting Post
Here are the entries for this week's challenge:
( List of entries )
In order to vote, please reply to this post using the form provided. All comments are screened, and entries are listed in the order they were submitted. For your vote to qualify, you must fill out your entire voting card (all three spots) in order to be counted. First place votes are worth 3 points, second place votes are worth 2 points, and third place votes are worth 1 point. Meeting the bonus goal on an entry gets an extra point for that submission.
When voting, please copy/paste the ENTRY NUMBER and the FIC TITLE from the list above into the spot you're voting for (this prevents accidentally mis-numbering a vote and casting it for the wrong entry). It should look like this:
First Place: 61. Fic Title Here
Second Place: 88. Another Fic Title
Third Place: 47. Finally a third fic title goes here
Please note that you cannot vote for your own entry, and that votes cannot be made anonymously. You do not have to be a member of the community in order to vote, nor have submitted an entry for this week; everyone is welcome to participate in the voting. IP addresses are logged to prevent duplicate voting.
Voting closes Wednesday, September 24, at 9:00PM EST.

the long day's journey
It's always interesting, doing a journey.
The interruptions of attacks or broken bridges are one thing, but it's always a trick to convey to the reader that the journey was long and wearisome without the passage being long and wearisome.

Happy Equinox
It's Mabon here in the north. It's my favorite time of year. It was not off to a good start today but you know what? It's all just minor work stuff and it'll work itself out.
I don't understand what Rybelsus did to me but ever since I took it just for those 3 days (and it took another 3 to recover) it seemed to reset me. My diabetes is doing good, blood sugar down to normal levels. I know it won't last and it makes me sad I couldn't deal with the side effects. It would be nice not to have to worry about all the damage done from the high sugars.
Had the authors' zoom tonight. It was a short one but that's okay because storms were raging around and I got a lot of words and I finished my second
wipbigbang which is great. Now to get moving on other things. Too much to do.
And I got a request for my bio and buy links from the cryptid anthology I'm in. Finally. Still no release date.
So Mothman festival (pictures like all my pictures coming eventually). Last year I went on Saturday but my friend TH wanted to come with me this year and he couldn't go until Sunday. You know what, SO much better. On Saturday even getting there are 830 (it starts at 10) there was NO parking. Had to park blocks away (for some reason I wish I knew why, pre covid we had to park 2.5 miles in Krodel park but there were buses to the fest, now you still have to park there and WALK to town. No way)
But since Sunday had no 5K mothrun we got to park in the handicapped lot (which I doubt anyone knew existed because very few others asked the boys to move the blockage and let them in. I'm not shy about that). Last year everything was open before 10 (thank you racers) but yesterday no one was expect Silver Bridge coffee (my local favorite brand) I got caught and me and TH sat at a sidewalk table talking until things opened.
It was cool then (ended up around 90 by noon though) We left before 1 and the talks started but let's face it, I'm getting old and TH is several years older than me and it was getting hot. How many Bigfoot talks can we go to?!? We dipped out on that.
So it was a nice few hours of shopping around (and me showing him the new stores because he's a homebody and didn't even know about these stores) It's good. The town is recovering a little and it's great to see and for perspective, Point Pleasant has about 4,000 people. The festival had nearly 40K. Yeah.
Did I get much? No, oddly enough not as much as I usually do but again how much more crap do I need? I got some pins from the guy with popculture stuff, a couple fridge magnets, one book on creepy florida (ha, didn't expect that!) and two more cds from Nox Arcana whom I love. And some more infused maple syrup from the sellers I buy from every year.
I ran into a former student and we'll hopefully by hiring her on as part of the wellness committee to teach yoga.
Lunch was special...bad special, delicious but bad from coal miner diner, a hot dog with cheese, bacon, fried pickles and slaw. I felt SO much better after that and that caused me concern. I think my BP has been low (another sign I might have a slow bleed ulcer) I mean think of all the salt in that. It made me feel good so it raised my pressure up.
I saw storm troopers, ghost busters, men in black, mothmen, the hodag (another cryptid I lived in his town) and the hot new cryptid this year was the Squonk! That's right, the one I was going to his festival in July but had to house sit. He's also in the other cryptid story I wrote that I'm still waiting to hear (I hope they're not one of those we're never telling you you didn't get in) I didn't buy any squonk stuff. Maybe next year if my story gets taken in.
TH is looking at me like I'm crazy because I'm like hey Vendor, saw you at the Kecksburg fest, yo how was the bigfoot fest. No, not crazy but I am deeply weird.
It's just a free for all Music Monday share whatever makes your weird little heart happy. I'll go first.

Rug of a different sort and recs
So many, many years after we probably should have we finally went out and bought a new bed to replace the 20 yr old futon (do not be me, that was *far* too long to keep that cheap thing) and when taking apart the bedframe I found an old braided rug I'd stored between the board and the slats in an attempt to flatten it *ages* ago.
And when I say ages, I mean ages. As I vaguely remembered posting about it, I search through my livejournal and found a mention of pulling out the rug to work on (while watching an episode of due South, good taste past!me) in a post from December 2007 (2007!! who knows when I actually started it) and included a picture of the rug then:
The rug I pulled out only had two more color rounds completed so wasn't all that much further along but was left with a long section of braid unattached and needing new strips sewn on. I never quite mastered the technique of sewing on the new strips properly so that the seam didn't show and always found lacing the braid to the rug was frustrating, fiddly and hard to do for any length of time without hurting my back so it's not surprising I just gave up at some point. Tension was always a perpetual problem so I must have shoved the rug there in an attempt to flatten it. (Something that mostly, but not completely, succeeded). Deciding to just figure out some way to finish it (unfortunately, that's a part I had never really mastered either) I eventually finagled something and TADA:

(Do I need another rug? No. Do I have a place for the rug? Also no. Am I also in the process of making a knotted rug that I took a break from to finish this guy off? Yes. Do I have a place for that rug? Bwhahaha, no.)
Anyway... Just a few more days left for Yuletide nominations! We get 5 slots, it's so exciting! (I really need to make an actual decision on my last slot, I've been waffling for ages about it)
And, last but not least,
recthething tumblr art recs (whoops, I've been forgetting to crosspost these here, sorry!)

Critical Role + AO3
Oh, good! I was hoping that the AO3 would come up with a plan for the Critical Role tag before CR4 started next week, and it looks like they have.
I know that I didn't have to do it, but I went through and edited all 64 of my Critical Role fanworks on the AO3 to change the fandom from Critical Role (Web Series) to Critical Role: Exandria (Web Series). I also added a non-canonical fandom tag to each of them to make it very clear which campaign/miniseries they belong to, if only because it's starting to get a bit complicated.
For those curious (which is approximately no one), the non-canonical fandom tags that I added are as follows:
Critical Role: The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade (Web Series),
Critical Role: Bells Hells (Web Series)
Critical Role: Mighty Nein (Web Series)
Critical Role: The Screw Job (Web Series)
Critical Role: Vox Machina (Web Series)
Exandria Unlimited (Web Series)
Exandria Unlimited: Calamity (Web Series)
... although admittedly I was already using several of those non-canonical tags prior to me editing my fics today. It's really just the three main campaign tags that are newly added as of today.

Movie Review: Satan's School For Girls
I have recently watched two versions of Satan's School for Girls, the original 1973 one and the 2000 remake. I initially saw the 2000 version when it aired (because of Shannen Doherty and Julie Benz), however I only caught the tail end of it and never saw the movie in full. It took some time before finding it, and then I watched the 1973 version to compare. Both which were made-for-television movies, both were produced by Aaron Spelling, and both have their own strengths and weaknesses and unique takes on the story being told.
The premise is about a young woman who, after discovering the mysterious death of her sister and not being convinced it was a mere suicide, goes to investigate at her sister's university to discreetly find out the truth of what happened, and as soon as she arrives strange things start happening.
( The original 1973 version. )
( The 2000 remake. )
( My final thoughts, comparing and contrasting the two movies. )
I definitely don't want it to happen considering the current state of media we're in, but I cannot help but wonder what another modern remake of Satan's School for Girls would look like today, just conceptually.
