January meme: H/C bingo

(still taking questions/suggestions, if you want me to talk about anything in particular - mixing up my responses to those with other stuff as I go)

As part of my "dammit I will be more fannish" decision, I signed up for an [community profile] hc_bingo card. The official bingo period ends, uh, tomorrow (Jan. 5), so I suspect I will not succeed on that front, but the amnesty period lasts through June 1, so I still have a shot at getting something done, at least.

My hc_bingo card:

family
burns cursed depression brainwashing / deprogramming
unrequited pining
bullet wounds on the run shipwrecked allergic reaction
rejection accept injury to protect someone
WILD CARD
deadline / time bomb amnesia
crucifixion protection minor illness or injury loss of powers hazing / bullying
sensory deprivation
corporal punishment magical trouble betrayal Stockholm syndrome

I have no idea how this works -- does this mean that you'll write some certain amount of words for each of the tiles, or only some of the tiles? Really cool h/c list, though. I'd read all those.

That's a pretty awesome card!

Agreed! I am particularly nuts about the center horizontal row... rejection, accept injury to protect someone, Wild Card (any prompt from the prompt list), deadline/time bomb, and amnesia.

Arduinna was saying the other day that it basically reads like a Person of Interest episode. :D :D :D

Only 500 words makes a fill!! That's the length of a Shack!

The world can always use more Shacks. And if the cold weather has you disinclined to write a proper Canadian Shack, what about something more tropical? Surely characters stumble into similarly isolated and idyllic Island Shacks ALL THE TIME.

I mean, outside of the shipwrecked one, your bingo card is like the entirety of Steve and Bucky's relationship.

If I understood how these things work I'd be tempted to sign up myself.

I find it pretty mellow--I mean, nothing bad happens if you ask for a card but never post a completed bingo (...ask me how I know :D ). And as Arduinna mentioned above, we're heading into the long amnesty period.

Thus far, I've asked for three cards--one I never acted on really, but last year's I used for prompts/inspiration and wrote a bunch of pocket stories, though I never did go back to the comm and post the links as a bingo...I think I never officially finished the row I picked?

And then there's my most recent card, which Arduinna has reminded me I might want to post on my journal. It's not quite as good as hers, but I think it's pretty darn good.

...huh, I took a look back and apparently I *did* write stories for a whole row. Why did I not post links to them as an official bingo??? WHO KNOWS, I AM A MYSTERY WRAPPED IN AN ENIGMA WRAPPED IN A BLANKET.

Yeah, what she said, all the cards are there for the inspiration... and the whole list of prompts from which the cards are constructed is there in the sidebar, which is a nice read. (List of mostly-painful prompts = "nice read". Heh. Yeah, h/c fan here. :D )

I was also thinking, if I hadn't been able to get my own card, I could just use the list of prompts + a random number generator to prompt myself.
