I'm so glad to have found his blog! It's exactly the kind of writing I like, apparently.
I have my suspicions about what started the fire - my former landlord was a smoker, and the report I saw was that it started basically in his bedroom, so I'm guessing he fell asleep smoking. We were never chatty, though, and I haven't talked to him since I moved, so I don't know for sure.
