Any time I write about CV, I go on for ages about how amazing it is, because -- it IS! It's amazing! And everyone keeps showing up, every year, and the newbies have as good a time as the people who've been going for a decade.
It astonishes me, having gone to a few ice-breaker things at SF cons that always wind up being kind of dire, no matter how interesting the original concept was -- they're either too vague ("come to our ice-breaker party and meet people!") or too specific by far ("come to our Regency Dance and meet people!"). But CV, man. "Come to our dance party, dressed however you want, where you can dance or sit in a corner and watch vids and still be a part of it all. GLOWSTICKS AND GLITTER FOR ALL".
It's actually everything I should hate (too many people! dressing up! heels! too many people some more!), and it's one of the highlights of my year. *g*
