arduinna: chibi Finch and Reese from Person of Interest (POI - Finch <3 Reese)
[personal profile] arduinna
Before I move on to POI, I wanted to suggest a new acronym for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. -- ASHIELD. Nice symmetry with MUNCLE. *g*

So Person of Interest s3 premiered last night! \o/ And I have things to say about it.

New credits! Awesome new credits, with more red everywhere as the Machine integrates all her different parts -- at least I assume that what's happening there is that she's no longer compartmentalizing anything; terrorism and day to day danger are all being processed and reported on together. (and huh, apparently I finally tipped over into gendering her; I hadn't before now, but Root is persuasive).

Team shakeup! In really interesting cool ways; I get a much more fluid sense of the team dynamic this time, from two pairs of two to five individuals sort of swirling around helping out where needed. I think the shift from Core Four to Core Five is going to work really well. Especially since the Core Two are still the Core Two (plus Bear). <3 I love how they keep carrying through the idea that team and family are found, and there's always room for more, if people are willing to commit.

Cranky about it in some ways or not, Shaw clearly likes being a part of this team, enough to stay available and even change her way of operating (and then brag about it, oh Shaw <3, you are awesome). Maybe someday she'll mellow enough about being part of the team to just... hand her phone back, instead of smashing it every time. Hee. (Also, what's the point, if they keep calling her [and she wants them to keep calling her] anyway for new jobs? Clearly, it's not like Harold can't find her.)

Also, bwah, that she's now their medical expert on removing bullets, since she's done it on herself so often. Yay continuity!

I don't understand the point of Fusco's fake beard (unless he was supposed to be in costume for the carriage?), but I loved his working with Shaw, right down to him swearing off ever working with her again on accounta kinda psycho. He's so much more comfortable than he used to be! I think this is all he ever wanted: to be part of a group of people trying to do the right thing and having each other's backs in the process.

I also loved Fusco and Carter's moment together; her being busted back to a uniform was unexpected but makes sense, and I wanted to hug Fusco for being so supportive of her. (And hee, on working for Finch and Reese having turned into their "day job".) I'm fascinated (but not all that surprised) that she stuffed Elias in a basement until she figures out what to do with him, and that she's willing to use him for information -- but not vengeance. Also fascinated and yet not all that surprised that she knows about the speakeasy, hee!

And of course Elias is using her back; man, way to start refunding his operation, taking the cash and the raw diamonds.

I like that Carter's not giving up; my guess is she's going to take down the remnants of HR and get her shield back.

So, hm, I do not actually believe that Harold doesn't know anything about John that ever made an official record somewhere. But I adored that little moment together at the bar, and John teasing him with that "I'm a very private person" ♥

But onto what was actually the key part of the ep for me: The MACHINE omg, how much do I love the Machine right now, all free and breezy and doing so much, holy cow. Retasking Root! Trying to teach her how to be a better person! Knowing that the probabilities are against it working, but doing it anyway!

...aaaaaaand I had vaguely noticed the "analog interface" label on Root via Machine view, but it hadn't clicked into place until earlier tonight [personal profile] therienne mentioned that Root's box had turned yellow and black, which I'd missed. I went back to rewatch, and the moment her box turns from yellow to yellow&black, the Machine labels her "analog interface". Holy crap. She's going to be the Machine's physical presence in the world, if the Machine can retask her to it.

It is so incredibly not good that Root considers the Machine a literal new god. She's going to be the high priestess.

Holy crap, what a fun season this is going to be.

I was ridiculously happy about the Machine's new visuals as she made connections and ran scenarios and probabilities; you can see how much deeper her knowledge and understanding is now that she's not having to start from scratch every blessed day. I think I actually made squeaky noises. And even in the credits, her visuals are sleeker and more sophisticated -- camera lenses, diamond-shaped boxes in addition to squares, tons more red everywhere.

ETA after posting, because I forgot something:

The only flashback all episode was for Root, IIRC. I think that's a first, and it's telling; John and Harold's pasts have caught up to them and been dealt with, and they've moved on together as a stronger team, able to accommodate Carter, Fusco, and Shaw as trusted peers. Root, though; Root has some catching up to do.

(Now watch, next episode will be full of flashbacks for everyone. *g*)/ETA

WAIT - ETA2: Ahaha -- the Navy guy was this week's "flashback" for John. Of course. *facepalm*

Ack out of time, again, how does midnight always come so fast! In short, *flail*!

(I need more POI icons, hm.)
