Wow, I just got nuthin for tonight. My head is still full of Person of Interest, but not coherently enough to really make a post.
Hm, okay. I don't think I ever said anything at all about The Blacklist, so here, have some spoilery reaction:
I liked it more than I thought I would! James Spader's shaven head is unfortunate, but I'm guessing the character did that for easiest possible facial recognition, and that it will eventually grow back. I hope. It's a good role for him.
I'm a little surprised that no one on the show has yet wondered if he's really the agent's father, but perhaps they haven't watched as much tv as the rest of us. I have a hard time believing any other reason he'd be so obsessed with (and proud of, and protective of) her, though.
I appreciate that she's not the perfect FBI agent; the "profile yourself" bit was a titch heavy-handed, but it laid down some good groundwork for why she'd be so willing to stick a -- pen? knife? whatever, straight into Spader's carotid when she needed information right then; unlike a lot of current media, that didn't feel like "of course cops go for excessive violence, that's how they get things done". Instead it was very much a "whoa, okay, she's kind of a sociopath, too. A sociopath with a cause. Good to know!"
I was totally unprepared for the husband to be an international bad guy of whatever sort he turns out to be; that was really well-done, and wow, he seriously plays his cover to the hilt.
I was a little eye-rolly at the Cage of Danger that just happened to be there; seriously, do they think this guy's Magneto? (Well, no, it would have been lucite, not steel. but still.) And it's sort of a ludicrous precaution, when they can't even manage to keep him from escaping from a hospital while badly injured.
But that wasn't enough to turn me off the show; I'll be giving this one at least another week or two, to see how things go.
