arduinna: Santa-hatted Momo (from Avatar the Last Airbender), saying "mo mo mo" (Yuletide)
[personal profile] arduinna
Thank you so much! The thought of a story in any of these fandoms is already making me happy.

I'd really like something that falls on the warm / happy / fluffy / vanilla end of the spectrum, if possible. If that isn't something you can do, I understand! Just please no deathfic or loss of a loved one, including pets; and no terminal illnesses of any kind as an h/c or angst trope. Thank you. <3

I love all four of these fandoms unreservedly, so if you have a yen to explore the universe, or bring in additional characters I didn't list, it's all good.

If you want more information about my requests, read on - but please don't worry if your ideas go in a different direction. Optional details are optional! As long as it's for one of these fandoms, and uses the characters, you totally win at Yuletide. \o/

My fic tastes
You will have noticed I'm a slash fan, with a strong leaning toward buddy pairs. Slash for me covers the full spectrum from UST and preslash through totally committed/involved, and can be explicit or not depending on what suits the story. It's all about the characters and their relationship, whatever point it may be at.

But if you don't do slash, that's totally fine! "Relationship" also covers friendship, and gen about these characters will also make me really happy.

Some story elements I like, in no particular order:

  • competence
  • affection
  • first times
  • hurt/comfort (physical or emotional)
  • banter
  • trust (either already established, or growing)
  • happy or hopeful endings
  • longing/yearning
  • wit
  • romance (in terms of a building relationship, not so much the Harlequin/Mills&Boon sort of thing)
  • the moment of discovery/realization
  • adventure
  • quiet moments
  • cavefic
  • characters who have broccoli with each other.

Some story styles I like, in no particular order:

  • plots
  • pwps
  • character studies
  • missing scenes
  • backstory
  • episode tags
  • epistolary fic

I also like crossovers, whether serious or cracky, and I read in a wide variety of fandoms -- if you have an idea to cross one of my requested fandoms with another fandom I know, feel free! (But of course, as always, don't feel obligated!)

If you want a more extensive look at the sorts of stories I like, I have a recs site that you can look at if that will help, and I tag things on pinboard as well. My own stories are here on AO3, and I also some bookmarks on AO3 as well. Everything's a little behind right now, but my tastes stay pretty stable.

Why I love these fandoms

(Alphabetical, not ranked by preference! I love them all. :)

Burn Notice (Sam Axe, Michael Westen)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! I love how competent they both are, and how they're such a well-oiled team, even though they couldn't be more different in a lot of ways. I'd love to see some light/warm moments about them and their strong connection to each other, anything from backstory to a slice of life to a case story.

Where to find it: This is ridiculously hard to find streaming online -- Hulu has one or two episodes at a time, and iTunes has a lot available to buy, but that seems to be pretty much it. The first four seasons are out on DVD; otherwise, the usual channels are probably the place to check.

Why I requested it: Michael's world is often pretty grim, angsty, and tense; Sam's is usually pretty cheerful, friendly, and laid-back. I love seeing how effortlessly those two worldviews fit together as they work together toward the same goal, or even just hanging out. I'm fascinated by how far back they clearly go, and how often their paths not only crossed (I loved Michael's casual cameo in The Fall of Sam Axe), but merged, so they wound up working together -- Michael doesn't seem to have any other Navy SEAL buddies, just Sam. And over the years, they've clearly developed brocooli. <3

They're each other's chosen family, and from what we've seen, that isn't usual for either of them. Michael especially doesn't choose family lightly, and doesn't make friends easily; Sam makes friends easily and is loyal to them, but it's all more casual buddy stuff -- Michael (and the rest of Michael's chosen family) is where he's put his heart. They'd do anything for each other, and not just because they owe each other their lives countless times over. They even sometimes manage to tell each other how they feel, in their own awkwardly sincere way, instead of coming at it sideways through teasing.

I'd love to see slash or warm gen for them that goes into that connection, whether backstory, a case they work on together, or just sitting and watching the sunset with a couple of cold ones.

Elfquest (Cutter, Skywise)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! These two are the core of Elfquest for me; they've always been so completely connected, making their differences be strengths to balance each other. I'd love to see some warm moments about them, anything from backstory to a slice of life to a missing scene to a new adventure. All I ask is that if you go for Cutter's childhood and his growing bond with Skywise, please keep that gen. <3

Where to find it: The entire series is available free online. If the thought of a full re-read is too much, feel free to stick to a smaller section -- I'm happy with any point in canon or pre-canon. I'm most familiar with the Original Quest, then Siege at Blue Mountain and Kings of the Broken Wheel, but am also currently reading the new comics as they come out and have read some of Hidden Years. So basically, pick your favorite and have at it. :)

Why I requested it: Elfquest is the first comic book I ever started buying and reading with intent, and I read it over and over to fill the time between issues. I loved everything: the elves, the world, the adventures. And most especially, Cutter and Skywise, and their relationship -- I mean, they know each other's soul names! Not even because of Recognition, but just because they loved each other that much. *happy sigh* (This was very formative for 15-year-old me. *g*) I love that they giggle and play, and argue, and share quiet moments, and risk everything for each other. I love that their bond stays true and strong no matter how much everything else changes.

And then I saw the new comics that started to go up a little while ago, and all that came whooshing back and I'm in love all over again. <3 I would really love to see anything at all, either Cutter and Skywise off alone somewhere at any point in their history, or together within the tribe or among the villagers (or trolls, or humans, or other elves, or wolves...). It's their togetherness that I love. Chasing each other through the forest, out on a hunt, studying the stars, snuggly from dreamberries, comforting after a wound, finding comfort and security in each other in the face of all the vast changes the see... man, seriously, anything.

I would be astonished if Cutter, Leetah, and Skywise hadn't formed a threesome at some point (or many points), but threesomes aren't really my thing. So while I'm perfectly okay with that being the emotional background of a story, I'm more interested in seeing a story based around the friendship or pairing of the two of them. (I can't imagine Leetah being jealous of Cutter and Skywise being lovemates, even outside a threesome.)

Night Court (Harry, Dan)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! I love the way these two became friends almost despite themselves, and how despite everything, there's a solid core of trust and respect between them. Anything you want to write, from a courtroom session to a slice of life, from wacky hijinks to intimate vulnerability -- it's all good. I just love the connection between these two, and as long as that's there, I'll be happy.

Where to find it: Seasons 1-3 are out on DVD in both the US and the UK, and seasons 4-6 are available on DVD direct through the WB Shop. There are also some short clips up on the WB for streaming (probably only in the US) if you just need to hear the voices again. Otherwise, you can check out the usual suspects, which may be able to provide.

Why I requested it: I don't get invested in most sitcoms, but this has always been an exception. There is so much to love about this show, from sheer wackiness to genuine emotion. All of the characters and relationships are great, but my favorites are Harry and Dan. They're the heart of the show for me; Harry is the one person Dan really *trusts*, and he never betrays that trust as they get closer every year. And it works the other way, too; Dan's the one who has the guts to tell Harry the truth when Harry tries to quit his job. They are so different, and seem to have so little in common, and yet they're always, always there for each other. <3

I'd be happy with any kind of story about them as long as their connection is there, from a court case to an interlude in Harry's chambers to a quiet day at home (or wherever)... really, anything at all. I would love to see slash for them, but if that isn't your thing, a buddy story would also be fabulous.

Person of Interest (Harold Finch, John Reese)
Request details: Slash or warm gen, any rating, please! I love the deepening relationship between these two, how they're both so deliberately isolated and paranoid and cut off, but reach out for each other without even realizing it and form an intensely strong bond. I'd love to see some light/warm moments about them and their strong connection to each other, anything from backstory to a slice of life to a case story.

Where to find it: This is impossible to find streaming online; CBS refuses to put episodes up, for some unfathomable reason. Season 1 is out on DVD and Blu-Ray, and can be purchased for download/streaming off Amazon. Season 2 isn't available anywhere yet. (Why, CBS, WHY?) So ahem is the best option.

Why I requested it: This show pushes every old-school slash button I have, and while I like the plots and the concept and the backstory a lot, my main reason for being here is the relationship between Finch and Reese.

You've got these two incredibly repressed, deliberately isolated men who join forces to fight injustice and crime and all that good stuff, with truly disturbing levels of spying and invasion of privacy and manipulation of pretty much everything and everyone. And after coming together for the most pragmatic of reasons ("I'll line them up; you kneecap them" "...Okay, that works"), they slowly, painfully, awkwardly, heart-meltingly, start forming a relationship and growing to trust each other. Which is astonishing, because neither one of them trusts anyone. And with every little bit of information gleaned or given, every "my friend" or cautious touch, every hidden layer of conversation, every frantic reaction at sudden lack of contact, I just melt into a puddle of happy pink goo.

So really, I'd love to see slash or warm gen for them that goes into that connection, whether a quiet shared moment, a missing scene, a case -- anything, as long as their connection is there.

Truly, I adore all these fandoms, and will be happy with absolutely anything you write, as long as you enjoy writing it.

And thank you, again!!

Gah! OMG, woman, your letters are usually big bundles of tempting...ness, but this year feels more intense even than usual. I want to see EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE. ...hell, I want to WRITE every single one of these. As I was whining at telling [personal profile] marycrawford the other day, whyyyy can't you keep me in a velvet-lined box with snacks and Diet Cokes and high-speed internet and cable teevee, and let me try giving all of these stories a whirl?? Whyyyy am I not better at my writing-time-management?

I would be astonished if Cutter, Leetah, and Skywise hadn't formed a threesome at some point (or many points),

I'm sure they have!: http://adnirod.tumblr.com/image/34023924901

You know, my primary focus point in that image always ends up being Skywise holding on to Cutter's hand. I mean, there they are, naked and cuddled up in a big family bundle, yes, but even with that, Skywise is also holding Cutter's hand against his heart. SIGH. (Plus, I wholeheartedly agree about jealousy not even occurring to Leetah, re: Cutter/Skywise. I just can't see it in the characterization whatsoever. ♥)

*beams at you* Well, if you'd posted yours just a smidge earlier, I would have lifted "Chasing each other through the forest, out on a hunt, studying the stars, snuggly from dreamberries, comforting after a wound, finding comfort and security in each other" fast as lightning.

Mmmmm, let me just swim around in that for a while...
