arduinna: David "Papi" Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, having a good day (Red Sox)

I really thought this was going to go to Game 7, and be a nail-biter all the way, after St. Louis recovered from that first game. But yay! That was pretty fantastic. The third and fourth innings were amazing; the Sox were on fire. I was nervous as hell in the seventh, when Lackey had clearly been out there too long, but phew.

I can't blame the Cardinals for walking Ortiz as much as they did - really, it's the only sensible strategy, considering how incredibly he's been hitting -- but he was so cranky about it, hee. And he still scored two runs, despite never getting a hit. ♥ Papi ♥

I don't make a habit of watching sports because I always wind up feeling bad for whoever loses, but home team championships are a different matter. I still feel terrible for the Cardinals and their fans (god, how crushing was that?), but on the flip side of that, wow, was this a fun series to be a Red Sox fan during.

I hope my dad managed to stay awake for it. *g*

I know exactly how you feel. When I moved to Wisconsin, it became clear that you had to be able to talk about the Packers like you talk about the weather, so I dutifully set about learning the game and the team. I should dig up my first sports post I made about a shut out game we won over the Vikings at home. I posted how bad I felt for the Vikings fans who had traveled to the game from neighboring Minnesota only to see their team *shut out.*

I was schooled by proper fans on how that was a totally inappropriate reaction. :-)

Congrats to your home town team!!

At least they didn't spend too long at the end focusing on "here is a devastated Cardinals player!" I mean, I could have done with zero of that, but.
